The Sandbox metaverse

The Sandbox is a play-to-earn game that combines blockchain technology, DeFi and NFT in a 3D meta universe. The Sandbox allows players to create their own virtual world (using non-exchangeable tokens (NFT) on the Ethereum blockchain), games, and digital assets with their free tools, and then monetize them as NFT and sell them for SAND tokens on The Sandbox Marketplace. The game can also be presented as a DeFi version of Minecraft on the blockchain.

What is the essence of The Sandbox?

The Sandbox is a dynamic user-created virtual world. Players can release their own NFTs, create avatars, virtual goods, and even games using VoxEdit and Game Maker. Virtual goods are used not only to interact with other players, but also to monetize NFTs and trade on the Sandbox Marketplace.

The Sandbox Assets

Sandbox uses several different tokens for player interaction with the platform. These include SAND (basic currency and control token), LAND (land ownership token), and ASSETS (user-created NFT asset).

Investment in the project

In November 2021, Sandbox raised $93 million in funding from investors led by Japanese mobile giant SoftBank. And more than 50 partners, including Atari, a well-known game company, CryptoKitties, The Walking Dead, and hip-hop star Snoop Dogg.

VoxEdit

- is a so to speak creator's workbench (software) for Sandbox users to create, promote and animate voxel NFTs.
Voxels are volumetric pixels that resemble Lego blocks. With voxels, any VoxEdit user can create literally anything their imagination allows: different items for their avatars, such as clothes or weapons, as well as animals, plants, game tools, and items for interacting in The Sandbox, these created NFTs are called ASSETS. The created virtual items can then be monetized as NFTs and sold on The Sandbox Marketplace.

Game Maker

- is a creator mode that allows users to create and test their 3D games in the Sandbox metagame universe. It is a fairly simple program that does not require special programming knowledge. Users can edit various elements and NFTs created with VoxEdit in an environment called LAND. Players can also share their creations with the Sandbox community.

The Sandbox Marketplace

- is an NFT marketplace where users can trade inside game assets (ASSETS) with a SAND token. Purchased ASSETS can then be added to LANDs (LANDs) using Game Maker and create their own games. These NFTs represent objects, buildings, accessories, and other items that can be used in The Sandbox.

From the above, we can see that The Sandbox platform uses several different tokens for player interaction with the platform: SAND, LAND and ASSETS.

The SAND token

- is a native token (ERC-20) of The Sandbox with a total offering of 3 billion. It is used for all transactions and in-game interactions.
SAND is also a management token. SAND owners can vote for changes on the platform through a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) SAND can be obtained by playing The Sandbox and participating in contests, as well as by buying on cryptocurrency exchanges.

ASSETS

- are user-created NFTs. They are voxel assets created with VoxEdit, which are then uploaded to The Sandbox Marketplace and converted into NFTs for sale.
ASSETS can be used in different ways in the game. They are usually environmental objects - buildings, animals, or cars. They can also be attached to your avatar as clothing or weapons. Game Maker game developers use ASSETS to create unique gameplay experiences.

LAND

- are digital real estate items on the Sandbox platform. They are ERC-721 tokens issued on the Ethereum blockchain. Players can buy LANDs and create their own versions of games using ASSETS and the Game Maker tool, as well as combine multiple LANDs to create ESTATEs.

LANDs allow players to monetize their gaming experience. For example, they can charge other players who visit their lands and play their games, earn rewards in SAND by posting content and hosting events, and sell or rent out LANDs.The total supply of LAND tokens in The Sandbox is 166,464. Alternatively, you can buy LAND from others on the Sandbox Marketplace and NFT platforms such as OpenSea, but the prices are often higher than the official public sales.
